Instagram introduces message editing, but with a ticking clock
In a move long-awaited by users, Instagram has finally rolled out the ability to edit direct messages (DMs), joining the ranks of popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, recently released a software update introducing this feature to the platform. However, there's a catch: you only have a 15-minute window to make any edits once the message is sent. To utilize this feature, users simply need to press and hold on to the sent message and select "edit" from the dropdown menu.
In addition to the editing feature, the update includes the option to pin up to three favorite direct messages at the top of the feed. This functionality proves particularly useful for users engaged in ongoing conversations. To pin a conversation, users can hold down the conversation tab, access the dropdown menu, and select "pin" to prioritize it.
Moreover, the recent update offers an easier method for managing read receipts. Users now can toggle read receipts on or off for all chats or choose specific ones based on their preferences. This provides greater control over whether others receive notifications when messages are read.
The update also introduces changes to chat themes, with new DM themes available, including trending ones tied to popular franchises like Dune: Part Two and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Users can switch the theme for a chat by tapping the chat name at the top, accessing themes, and selecting one. Alternatively, they can press and hold anywhere in the background of an open chat.
Furthermore, users can now save their favorite stickers in their DMs for quick access. Pressing and holding the desired sticker will save it at the top for easy retrieval during future conversations.
In related news, the Galaxy S24 recently became the first phone to introduce HDR to Instagram. However, leaks suggest that Ultra HDR photos might soon be available on Instagram for more devices, promising higher-quality content and improved visual appeal for users across the platform.
