Google Pay App's Journey to End in June

In a recent announcement via a blog post, Google has confirmed the discontinuation of its Google Pay app in the United States. Effective June 4, 2024, the standalone version of the application will cease to be available, prompting users to transition to Google Wallet instead.

Among the features slated for removal with the app's discontinuation are peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, access to offers and deals, as well as balance management within the platform. However, it's important to note that the app will remain accessible in other markets such as India and Singapore.

Google has disclosed that while Google Pay boasts usage by "millions of people in over 180 countries", its desktop iteration for ChromeOS, macOS, and Windows PCs remains active. On mobile devices, it operates as part of the Google Wallet ecosystem, with dedicated apps available for both Android and iOS platforms.

Google Wallet is the primary service for securely storing payment cards, transport passes, state IDs, and driver's licenses. Notably, it sees five times more usage than the Google Pay app in the United States. Users with remaining balances in their Google Pay application are advised to transfer funds to a linked bank account before the June 4 deadline.

As the app sunsets, searching for the best deals will seamlessly integrate into Google's Search functionality. Users within the US can expect a dedicated Deals section to cater to their shopping needs.
