The new Pixel 8 series will be supported with spare parts by Google for a duration of seven years

The new extended software support for this year's Pixel phones was one of the major announcements made during the Pixel 8 launch. Major OS and feature updates for 7 years were promised by the search engine giant. That's a significant commitment, and it goes above and beyond what Apple is prepared to provide with its iOS products. Depending on how you count, the Fairphone 5 is the only device that even comes close.

However, there are a few small negatives, like the fact that phones regularly malfunction and that their batteries generally degrade significantly after 7 years. Fortunately, Google has taken notice of this and a spokesman for the company has promised that the company would also offer 7 years of hardware upkeep. Spare parts for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be available for those seven years.

Despite Google's lack of specificity, it seems probable that in Europe and India, spare parts would be available through that website, while iFixit will serve as Google's service provider in the US.
