Tecno POVA 3: The Undying Battery?

The undying battery smartphone that competes with iPhone 13 Pro max's battery durability.

pova 3 feature

Tecno released Tecno POVA 3 of the POVA series in May and its highlight is the elevated battery capacity of 7000mAh that was heralded by its predecessor; POVA 2. A major distinction between both devices is the reverse charging feature which charges other smartphones and accessories at 10watt charging. Does the battery capacity worth its purchase or would you consider it due to other factors?

Build/Design

The Tecno POVA 3 is a plastic frame and rear device with no Corning Gorilla Glass protection for the screen. It comes in 3 colors; blue, silver, and black. Blue has a LED light at the rear. For the external features, you get a Tecno POVA 3 which is a dual 4G sim device, with dual stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The power button doubles as the fingerprint scanner as well.

Display

It boasts a 6.9" IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1080×2460 pixels display and a customizable refresh rate of 60/90Hz.

Chipset/OS

Moreover, the Tecno POVA 3 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 12-nanometer processor and runs on HIOS 8.6, and Android 12 operating systems. When compared with the Infinix Note 12 via Antutu benchmark it scored 209728, while the former scored 219539.

Storage

As regards storage, Tecno POVA 3 comes with 6GB RAM expandable by 5GB (11GB RAM)/128GB ROM.

Camera

Its camera options include an 8MP selfie cam, a 50MP main cam, a 2MP depth can, and a QVJ cam. The selfie cam is sharper when used outside and shoots at 2k with sharp audio and video quality. The 50MP main cam also takes great pictures, and shoots at 2k with reasonable quality, however, it has no video stabilization.

Battery

The Tecno POVA 3 is dignified with a 7000mAh battery capacity which lasts for over 9hrs per single charge. Moreover, it takes about 2hrs to fully charge from 0 to 100% with a 33watt charger with a USB Type-C port.

The Difference?

A battery drain test between iPhone 13 pro max and Tecno POVA 3 as documented by Valor reviews shows that it is the 'Android iPhone 13 pro max'. After about 9hrs 30mins of gameplay, YouTube videos, and video recording, along with Antutu and 3D mark tests the Tecno POVA 3 hits 0% while iPhone 13 pro max follows suit a few seconds later.

However, when compared with its predecessor by Gadget Review, POVA 2 which also has a 7000mAh battery capacity came below the benchmark. It was recorded that the Tecno POVA 3 hit 9% after 17hrs 30mins of YouTube 4k videos at 1440pixels while Tecno POVA 2 dropped to 3% after the same settings.

Conclusion

When compared to other smartphones in the POVA series there isn't much that sets it apart, except for a few upgrades and the gross battery retaining capability of the Tecno POVA 3. Nevertheless, it beats most midrange smartphones with its battery capacity. A downside to the device is its lack of an IP rating.

The Tecno POVA 3 is recommended to anyone in search of a durable battery in a device among other considerations.
