Since 2016, Apple has begun producing iPhones in India. Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron are the three contract manufacturers that the Cupertino, California-based tech behemoth uses in the nation. In fact, on the day of introduction, Apple offered the Made in India iPhone 15 for sale for the first time this year. An Indian company has now officially announced that it would start assembling iPhones in the nation, which is a significant new milestone. We've already heard rumors that Tata Group is acquiring Wistron.

Rajeev Chandrashekar, Minister of IT, congratulated Tata Group for assuming control of Wistron's operations on X, previously Twitter. This signifies Wistron's departure from the nation's iPhone assembly industry. Additionally, this is the first time that an Indian company would be producing iPhones for Apple.

Wistron and Tata Group have a $125 million (about Rs 124.9 crores) contract. The manufacturing facility of Wistron is situated in Karnataka. Given that Wistron was allegedly closing down its operations in India, Tata's acquisition of the company is hardly shocking.

The IT Minister praised Apple's efforts in creating an international supply chain led by Indian enterprises and hailed Wistron for its contributions. In two and a half years, he continued, Tata Group would start producing iPhones in the nation for both local and international markets.

Foxconn and Pegatron continue to be Apple's contract manufacturers in India. The second-biggest smartphone market in the world is India, where the Cupertino-based tech giant has also been expanding.
