Samsung Smart TVs Bid Farewell to Google Assistant

In a significant shift for Samsung smart TV users, a noteworthy change is on the horizon. Commencing March 1, 2024, Google Assistant will bid farewell to all Samsung TV models, marking the cessation of its presence, even on models that originally featured the virtual assistant.

This alteration comes on the heels of the subtle removal of Google Assistant from Samsung's 2023 TV lineup. The confirmation of this discontinuation can now be found on Samsung's support page, extending across various models, encompassing 2022, 2021, and 2020 iterations, including 8K and 4K QLED TVs, Crystal UHD TVs, and Lifestyle TVs such as Frame, Serif, Terrace, and Sero.

Having integrated Google Assistant into their TVs in 2020, Samsung's decision to remove the feature after just four years raises eyebrows. The company attributes this move to "a change in Google’s policy," yet the specifics of this policy shift remain shrouded in mystery.

The support page highlights, "Important: Due to a change in Google’s policy, Google Assistant will no longer be available on Samsung TVs beginning March 1st, 2024. Check out other options for voice assistants on Samsung TVs."

While Google recently underwent alterations to Assistant by axing 17 features, any direct correlation to Samsung's decision remains unclear.

With the departure of Google Assistant, Samsung TV owners now find themselves compelled to embrace other pre-installed voice assistants, namely Samsung’s Bixby and Amazon’s Alexa. For those accustomed to the convenience of Google Assistant, the transition to alternative brands might be the only recourse. While exploring new TV options is plausible for those in the market, it might not be the most practical solution.

Notably, most smart TV brands, excluding Samsung, such as LG, Sony, TCL, and Hisense, continue to uphold Google Assistant support in their offerings.
