Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 pre-orders in Korea hit a record of over 1million sales.
Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5, and pre-orders for the foldables began on August 1 in South Korea. Orders for the two gadgets have surpassed one million in the United States, beating the previous record of 970,000 for the 2022 devices.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 outsold the Fold5, accounting for around 70% of the total 1.02 million devices sold. This is an improvement for the clamshell, as the Galaxy Z Flip4 accounted for around 60% of the market last year. The Flip5 received 714,000 pre-orders, while the Fold5 received 306,000 units with a few days left before the pre-order window closed.
Buyers in the United States are less interested in the large foldable than in its predecessor, the Fold4, which had 388,000 pre-orders. Even with Samsung's generous trade-in incentives, few current customers were enticed to upgrade due to the relatively minor update and the Fold4's good durability.
We can see why people gravitated for the Galaxy Z Flip5 - it has a larger cover screen that is significantly more useable than any of its predecessors and vastly enhances the selfie-taking experience as well as navigation while the device is closed.
