Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra full review: is this the iPad killer?

Samsung is one of the best if not the best developers and manufacturers of electronic gadgets out there, and they just came out with a beast which is the SG S9 Ultra. Can this beast of a tablet overthrow the iPad?

samsung galaxy s9 ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra is Samsung's newest and highest-end tablet, and trust me, this is a beast of a tablet.

Spotting a 14.6-inch screen, this tablet has been announced to be a premium device capable of handling most of your high-power-consuming tasks. With a Qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip, 11,200 mAh battery, multitasking features, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a clean slick look, this tablet can satisfy most of your needs and wants, while largely remaining the same price as last year's S8 ultra, which is certainly a good thing.

With a starting price of 600,000 naira and 1,200 dollars, this is certainly not cheap by any means.

Our review of Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra

8 / 10Review score

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra is without a doubt one of the most powerful tablets on the market and it delivers great quality with superior productive potential, all this is largely due to its.

1. Dynamic Amoled Display

The new flagship Samsung tablet stricks an improved display compared to its predecessor, featuring g a dynamic AMOLED 2× display, which makes for a bright and colorful presentation of images.

It has a screen resolution of 2960× 1848 pixels with HDR 10 compliance, which makes the image display look sharp and gorgeous. Even with the S9 Ultra having a lower display resolution than the iPad, the more vibrant AMOLED panel gives it a visual edge.

2. IP68 rating

IP68 rating essentially means that this tablet is water and dust-resistant, and can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes, so you don't have to worry about it getting wet or falling into a pool of water, I can't think of any situation that would lead to your tablet falling into the water, well, unless you are testing it out or watching Netflix by the pool and you accidentally slip or something.

An IP68 gives the tablet a level of resistance to dust and water that no other tablet out there can, not even the iPad Pro.

3. Improved S pen

Now the S pen of the S9 ultra is much more responsive due to the faster 2.8 millisecond latency. You can get more work done with it, and it actually feels like a pen, which leads to higher productivity.

Stronger magnets ensure that the S pen stays still and now charges no matter the direction it faces.

4. Improved DeX mode

Also spotting an improved DeX mode means that multitasking has never been easier and more pleasurable to engage in. The Ulta mode effectively transforms the tablet into a computer that you can easily control using a mouse and a keyboard, even with the added benefit of adding an external monitor.

You can start to see why this tablet is a beast.

Positives

  • Ultra responsive S pen
  • IP68 water and dust resistance
  • Large screen for multitasking
  • Snapdragon 8 gen 2
  • Improved dynamic AMOLED display
  • DeX mode

Negatives

  • Periodic app crash
  • Large size portability
  • Price

Final thoughts

Can the S9 Ultra replace your iPad?

Very much so, the S9 Ultra offers some benefits that even the iPad Pro would only dream of, an example being its Amoled display and IP68 water and dust resistance. But it all comes down to preference, would you give up i-message and Airdrop for a bigger screen and a better user experience in terms of customizations and the benefit of added accessories?

Cheers.
