Budget earbuds have come a long way, but manufacturers still make compromises to keep prices low. Sometimes the sound quality is the sacrifice. Other times, it's the microphone, battery life or even basic controls.
One particularly frustrating example is buying a pair of earbuds that lets you play and pause music but doesn't give you proper volume or track controls.
That's one area where the Oraimo SpaceBuds Lite 2 gets things right.
Currently priced at around ₦19,800, the second-generation SpaceBuds Lite comes with Bluetooth 6.0, longer battery life, Sound360 Spatial Audio, app support, AI Translation and customizable touch controls.

But how much better is it than the original SpaceBuds Lite?
More importantly, is the Lite 2 actually worth buying if you're looking for affordable wireless earbuds?
What's New With the SpaceBuds Lite 2?
The SpaceBuds Lite 2 isn't a complete redesign of the original model. Instead, Oraimo has taken the first-generation earbuds and upgraded several of the important areas.
The original SpaceBuds Lite offered Bluetooth 5.4, Sound360 Spatial Audio, Smart Earbud Finder, up to seven hours of playback per charge and around 40 hours of total battery life with the charging case.
The Lite 2 moves to Bluetooth 6.0, increases single-charge playback to 7.5 hours and raises total battery life to as much as 50 hours.
That means there's potentially another 10 hours of total listening time available compared with the previous model.
The other notable addition is AI Translation, which is designed to assist conversations between people speaking different languages.
So while the Lite 2 isn't an entirely different product, there are enough changes to make the second generation more interesting.
Design and Comfort
The charging case is compact enough to carry around without taking up much space in a pocket or bag.
Oraimo has used a transparent lid that makes it easy to see whether the earbuds are inside. The top has a glossy finish, while the bottom uses a matte texture.
There's an Oraimo logo on the front along with an LED indicator for the case's battery status. A lanyard attachment is also included.
The earbuds themselves use an in-ear design with silicone tips and a mixture of glossy and matte surfaces.
One of their biggest strengths is how lightweight they are. They can be worn for extended periods without becoming particularly uncomfortable.
However, the fit may depend on the shape and size of your ears. People with smaller ears may find that the earbuds can move or even fall out during vigorous movement.
The earbuds also carry an IPX4 water-resistance rating, which means they should be able to handle sweat and light splashes. They're not designed for swimming or significant water exposure.
Proper Touch Controls Are a Big Plus
Touch controls might sound like a small feature, but they're something you'll appreciate every day.
The SpaceBuds Lite 2 allows you to control music playback, skip tracks and adjust the volume directly from the earbuds.
That means you don't have to reach for your phone every time you want to make a simple adjustment.
The controls can also be customized through the Oraimo Sound app.
There are some limitations. The left and right earbuds can't be configured completely independently, but you can still choose between playback and volume functions or disable touch controls altogether.

How Do the SpaceBuds Lite 2 Sound?
Oraimo equips the Lite 2 with its HavyBass technology alongside Sound360 Spatial Audio.
The bass has a noticeable presence, and depending on the type of music you're listening to, it can sound reasonably punchy.
However, these aren't earbuds aimed at people looking for extremely powerful bass. The overall sound is fairly balanced, with vocals remaining clear enough for music, podcasts and movies.
One weakness becomes more noticeable when you push the volume all the way up. The bass can start to distort at maximum volume.
Sound360 Spatial Audio is more interesting.
When enabled, the soundstage feels wider and more immersive, particularly with movies and certain types of music. There is a noticeable difference between having it on and off.
That said, whether you prefer it will come down to personal taste. A more natural presentation may be preferable for everyday music listening, while Spatial Audio can make compatible content feel more expansive.
What Can You Do With the Oraimo Sound App?
The companion Oraimo Sound app adds quite a bit of functionality to the earbuds.
You can check the battery levels of both earbuds and the charging case, select from six EQ presets or create a custom EQ profile.
The app also provides access to Spatial Audio, prompt-volume controls and the touch-control settings.
There's a Game Mode as well.
However, the difference when using Game Mode isn't particularly obvious. For casual gaming it may be fine, but competitive mobile gamers shouldn't buy these earbuds specifically because of this feature.
The app also lets you rename the Bluetooth device and provides a Find Device feature that plays a loud sound through the earbuds to help locate them.
Battery Life
Battery life is where the SpaceBuds Lite 2 makes one of the clearest improvements over its predecessor.
The original model was rated for up to seven hours per charge and approximately 40 hours when combined with the charging case.
The Lite 2 increases those figures to 7.5 hours per charge and up to 50 hours total.
Real-world testing also produced encouraging results.
Across seven consecutive listening sessions using a spare phone, more than six hours of usage was achieved per session while listening at slightly above-average volume. With the charging case included, that worked out to more than 40 hours of actual use.
The advertised 7.5 hours per session wasn't reached during this particular test, but the result is still respectable considering the higher listening volume.
Charging the case and earbuds from empty takes roughly two hours with a suitable USB charger.
For people who don't want to constantly think about charging their earbuds, battery life is definitely one of the SpaceBuds Lite 2's strengths.
Call Quality
Microphone quality is another area where inexpensive earbuds can struggle.
The SpaceBuds Lite 2 performs reasonably well here.
Voice pickup remains usable in environments with background activity, including outdoor locations with traffic and people around.
The microphone isn't immune to noise, though. Extremely loud environments can still affect voice clarity.
For everyday phone calls, meetings and casual conversations, the microphone performance is surprisingly capable considering the price.
AI Translation
One of the most noticeable additions to the Lite 2 is AI Translation.
The feature is designed to help people communicate when they speak different languages.
It could potentially be useful while travelling, studying or communicating with people who don't speak the same language.
However, it probably shouldn't be the main reason to buy these earbuds.
Instead, it's better viewed as an additional feature that you may occasionally find useful rather than something that defines the entire product.
The core experience—sound, comfort, battery life and controls—is still much more important.

Bluetooth 6.0 and Gaming
The move from Bluetooth 5.4 to Bluetooth 6.0 is another upgrade over the previous generation.
In everyday use, the connection is stable. Noticeable connection drops weren't experienced unless moving a considerable distance away from the phone or having several walls interfering with the connection.
Gaming is a slightly different story.
While the dedicated Game Mode is available, it doesn't produce a particularly noticeable improvement in latency during normal use.
For casual gaming, the earbuds are perfectly usable. However, competitive players looking for extremely low latency may want to consider earbuds specifically designed around gaming performance.
What We Like About the SpaceBuds Lite 2
There are several things that stand out positively about the Lite 2.
The lightweight design makes the earbuds comfortable for longer listening sessions, while the battery provides enough endurance that frequent charging isn't necessary.
The proper touch controls are another big advantage. Being able to adjust volume and skip tracks without reaching for your phone is exactly the type of basic convenience that shouldn't be sacrificed simply because the earbuds are affordable.

Another feature that would have been nice is the ability to power on the earbuds without having to put them back into the charging case.
These aren't deal-breaking issues, but they're areas Oraimo could address in a future generation.
SpaceBuds Lite vs SpaceBuds Lite 2: Should You Upgrade?
If you already own the original SpaceBuds Lite, upgrading isn't necessarily essential.
The first-generation model remains capable, especially if you're satisfied with its approximately 40-hour total battery life and existing feature set.
The Lite 2 becomes more interesting if you specifically want the improvements introduced with the newer generation.

Beyond those changes, much of the overall experience remains familiar.

You're getting decent sound quality, long battery life, proper touch controls, Bluetooth 6.0, app support, Spatial Audio, IPX4 resistance and a microphone that performs reasonably well for its class.
The AI Translation feature is an interesting bonus, although it shouldn't be the primary reason to buy the earbuds.
For existing SpaceBuds Lite owners, the upgrade is more about getting longer battery life and the newer features rather than experiencing a completely transformed product.
For new buyers, however, the Lite 2 makes a stronger case.
It doesn't deliver everything perfectly, but it covers many of the features people actually use every day without pushing the price too high.
If your priorities are battery life, comfort, useful touch controls and a solid overall feature set, the Oraimo SpaceBuds Lite 2 is a budget pair worth considering.
