Oraimo SpaceBuds 2 Review: Everything You Need to Know Before Buying

Oraimo has refreshed its popular SpaceBuds lineup with the launch of the SpaceBuds 2, bringing several meaningful upgrades over the original model. On paper, the improvements are easy to spot: stronger Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), longer battery life, spatial audio, AI-powered features, a redesigned charging case, and an updated companion app packed with new customization options.

With an official retail price of ₦53,500 in Nigeria, the SpaceBuds 2 enters one of the most competitive segments of the wireless earbud market. After using them as my daily earbuds for about two weeks, I wanted to find out whether these upgrades genuinely improve the experience or simply add more features to the specification sheet.

What's Inside the Box?

Oraimo keeps things simple with the packaging. Inside the box, you'll find the earbuds already placed inside the charging case, a USB-C charging cable, multiple pairs of silicone ear tips in different sizes, and the usual documentation.

There's nothing particularly exciting about the unboxing experience, but everything required to start using the earbuds is included.

Build & Design

The first noticeable upgrade is the charging case.

Compared to the original SpaceBuds, the new case looks and feels considerably more premium thanks to its metallic, almost oily-looking finish. Oraimo says the coating is designed to resist fading and peeling over time, although only long-term use will determine how well it holds up.

The hinges also deserve praise. They feel sturdy and well-built, inspiring confidence that the case should survive everyday use without developing unnecessary wobble.

One of the most interesting additions is the Smart Button located on the front of the charging case. Rather than serving only for pairing, it can perform multiple functions, including media playback controls, switching between ANC modes, and even acting as a remote shutter button for your smartphone's camera.

Initially, it seemed like a gimmick, but after spending some time with it, the remote camera function turned out to be surprisingly useful, especially for taking group photos or recording videos from a distance.

Comfort & Fit

The earbuds themselves remain lightweight and comfortable enough for extended listening sessions.

One improvement I immediately noticed was the redesigned silicone ear tips. If you owned the first-generation SpaceBuds, you may remember that the original ear tips could become slippery over time, particularly if you naturally have oily skin. That often meant constantly adjusting the earbuds or cleaning them to maintain a secure fit.

Oraimo appears to have addressed this issue with a different ear tip material on the SpaceBuds 2. The new tips grip much better and stay securely in place, making the earbuds noticeably more stable during daily use.

The earbuds also carry an IP55 rating, meaning they can comfortably handle sweat, dust, and light rain during workouts or commuting.

Touch Controls

While comfort has improved, one area that could use refinement is the touch controls.

The touch sensors are extremely responsive—perhaps a little too responsive.

Simply trying to adjust the earbuds in your ears often resulted in accidental pauses, skipped tracks, or unwanted commands. Although some users may appreciate the high sensitivity, I personally found myself triggering controls more often than intended.

A slight reduction in sensitivity would make the overall experience much smoother.

Oraimo Sound App

To unlock the full feature set, installing the Oraimo Sound app is highly recommended.

The app allows users to monitor battery levels, customize touch controls, switch ANC modes, enable Gaming Mode, activate Spatial Audio, manage dual-device connections, adjust equalizer settings, personalize charging case lighting, locate misplaced earbuds, rename the device, and install firmware updates.

Six built-in EQ presets are available, with HavyBass selected by default, while users who prefer a different sound signature can create their own custom EQ profile.

One particularly fun addition is the customizable voice prompt feature. Instead of relying solely on the default system voice, users can either generate an AI voice or record their own voice prompts.

The Find My Earbuds feature also works remarkably well because the earbuds produce an extremely loud locating sound when activated. The only missing feature is the ability to locate the charging case itself, which, in everyday use, is often easier to misplace than the earbuds.

Active Noise Cancellation

One of Oraimo's biggest advertised improvements is the upgraded Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation system, rated at up to 52dB.

Overall, the ANC is noticeably stronger than what I experienced on the original SpaceBuds. Combined with the improved ear tips, the earbuds create a better passive seal before the active noise cancellation even begins working.

During daily use, they effectively reduce constant background sounds such as fans, air conditioners, traffic noise, and general environmental hum. However, my testing revealed an interesting trade-off.

Although overall noise reduction has improved, the SpaceBuds 2 occasionally struggles more with certain higher-frequency sounds than the original model. Sharp consonant sounds such as "S" and "T" sometimes come through a little harsher in particularly noisy environments.

This doesn't happen often, but it's one area where I occasionally preferred the tuning of the original SpaceBuds.

So while the overall ANC performance is unquestionably stronger, there are still a few situations where the first-generation model handles higher frequencies slightly better.

Transparency Mode

If there's one feature Oraimo has dramatically improved, it's Transparency Mode.

The implementation feels far more natural than before. Environmental sounds come through clearly enough that there were several occasions where I genuinely forgot I was still wearing earbuds.

That's about the highest compliment I can give any transparency mode.

Whether crossing busy roads, speaking with colleagues, or simply remaining aware of your surroundings, the experience feels significantly more realistic than the previous generation.

Battery Life

Battery performance is another major strength.

Oraimo rates the SpaceBuds 2 for up to 11 hours of playback on a single charge with ANC disabled and up to 45 hours of total listening time when combined with the charging case.

In my own usage, I consistently averaged between eight and nine hours per charge because I frequently switched ANC on and off throughout the day.

While I haven't conducted controlled battery drain tests to verify Oraimo's official figures, I can confidently say battery life has been excellent throughout my two weeks of testing.

These are the kind of earbuds you can comfortably use every day without constantly reaching for the charger.

Of course, it's still too early to judge long-term battery health, which can only be evaluated after months or years of ownership.

Microphone Quality

The SpaceBuds 2 uses a four-microphone system with AI-powered noise reduction for calls. Phone conversations are perfectly usable, and people on the other end should have little trouble understanding your voice in normal environments. I wasn't particularly impressed with the microphone quality overall.

Whenever I needed to record voiceovers or other important audio, I still preferred using my phone's microphone instead. Performance also drops noticeably in very noisy environments, making this one of the weaker aspects of the earbuds. They're perfectly acceptable for everyday phone calls, but they aren't a standout feature.

Sound Quality

Sound quality is where the SpaceBuds 2 performs particularly well.

The 11mm dynamic drivers deliver a lively sound signature with plenty of deep, energetic bass that should immediately appeal to fans of Afrobeats, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and other bass-driven genres.

Despite the powerful low end, vocals remain clear, instrument separation is respectable, and the overall presentation avoids becoming muddy or overwhelming.

Rather than aiming for a perfectly flat studio sound, Oraimo clearly tuned these earbuds to deliver an enjoyable and energetic listening experience.

Spatial Audio Finally Gets It Right

One of the biggest surprises during testing was the Spatial Audio feature.

I've never been particularly impressed by Oraimo's previous attempts at spatial audio, but this generation is a noticeable improvement. Movies feel more immersive, games benefit from improved positional awareness, and music gains a wider, more spacious presentation where individual instruments become easier to distinguish.

It isn't something I leave enabled all the time, though. For spoken content like podcasts or voice notes, I generally prefer turning it off because the added processing can make voices sound slightly unnatural.

AI Features

Oraimo also includes AI-powered translation features as part of the overall software package.

While they work as advertised, I personally didn't find myself using them very often.

Part of the reason is the current lack of support for several major Nigerian languages such as Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.

For users who frequently communicate across supported languages, these tools could be genuinely useful. For my own daily use, however, they remained more of a bonus feature than a deciding factor.

Should You Buy the Oraimo SpaceBuds 2?

If you're upgrading from an older pair of budget earbuds—or even the original Oraimo SpaceBuds—the SpaceBuds 2 brings enough improvements to justify the purchase. The stronger ANC, significantly better transparency mode, redesigned ear tips, longer battery life, and improved Spatial Audio make everyday use more enjoyable.

However, if microphone quality is your highest priority or you frequently adjust your earbuds while wearing them, be aware of the overly sensitive touch controls and average call performance.

Overall, the Oraimo SpaceBuds 2 strikes an excellent balance between features, performance, and price. At ₦53,500, it stands out as one of the best value-packed wireless earbuds currently available in Nigeria, especially for users who want strong noise cancellation, long battery life, and an engaging, bass-rich sound signature.
