New Samsung Galaxy S24 Could Let You Stay Connected in Remote Areas
New speculations and leaks have begun appearing online even though the Samsung Galaxy S24 series debut is still months away. This time, the most recent information suggests that satellite connectivity will be a noteworthy new feature introduced to the company's flagship portfolio.
For those who are unaware, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor supports satellite communication, although it is not included in the current Galaxy S23 series. Apple added this capability to the iPhone 14 series last year, in the meanwhile. The Galaxy S24, which will provide a two-way satellite connection, now seems to be finally catching up to the South Korean tech titan.

The information was obtained from an interview with South Korea's Minister of Science and ICT, Lee Jong-ho, for a Yonhap News story. According to the Minister, local smartphone manufacturers are getting ready to introduce a service in 2024. This would enable data transfer between 5G phones and satellites. This comment probably refers to Samsung's future intentions for the 2024 flagship phone range, as it is the largest mobile brand in the region.
Samsung claims that the lack of technological maturity at the time prevented the inclusion of the satellite connection capability. So, the company decided to hold off on releasing the function until technology had advanced.
Even Iridium Communications, which has several low-Earth orbit satellites designed especially for emergency communications, has worked with it on this project. Samsung could not be too far behind Huawei at the moment as the sole company offering satellite connection on the Android operating system.
