Infinix Hot 70 Review: 6,000mAh, AI Features & Thermo Design

The budget smartphone market in Nigeria keeps getting more competitive every year, and Infinix clearly understands that. With the new Infinix Hot 70, the company is trying to stand out in two major ways: a unique color-changing back design and a heavy focus on AI-powered features that actually feel useful instead of just existing for marketing.
Right now, the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant sells for around ₦186,000 in Nigeria. That price instantly places it in a category where buyers expect more than just a large battery and decent cameras. People want style, smooth performance, fast charging, and long-term usability.
The Hot 70 tries to combine all of those things into one package.
Box Contents
One thing Infinix still does better than many brands is the complete unboxing experience. Inside the box, you get the phone itself, a 45W fast charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a clear TPU case, and even USB-C earphones.

At this price range, many brands are already removing accessories completely, so it is refreshing to still see a proper in-box experience without forcing users to buy everything separately.
Design & Build Quality
The biggest talking point on the Hot 70 is easily the Thermo Orange variant. This version uses what Infinix calls “dual-way thermo-sensing skin technology,” but in simpler terms, the back panel changes color depending on temperature.

When the phone gets colder, the orange becomes darker and deeper. Once heat is applied, it shifts into a brighter tone. The effect is surprisingly noticeable in real life and gives the phone a very different personality compared to most budget devices that all look the same.
Interestingly, the color change stays temporarily until the temperature changes again, meaning you can technically create patterns on the back using heat. It sounds gimmicky at first, but it is one of those features that genuinely grabs attention when people see it physically.

Beyond the color-changing trick, the phone itself feels more premium than expected. It measures around 7.49mm in thickness and weighs about 195 grams, making it slim enough to feel comfortable during long usage sessions.

For people who prefer something less flashy, there are other color options including Quiet Violet, Green Texture, Dive Blue, Silver Dancer, and Night Pulse.
Another detail that helps the Hot 70 stand out is the “Active Halo” notification ring around the camera area. It lights up for alerts and notifications, adding a more futuristic appearance to the phone.
Infinix also included IP65 dust and splash resistance alongside SGS-certified drop protection, meaning the phone is designed to survive everyday accidents better than many devices in this category.

At the bottom, you get the main loudspeaker, USB-C port, and microphone. The phone supports dual 4G SIM cards alongside expandable storage via microSD card, which is still important for many users who keep lots of offline content on their devices.
The power button and volume rocker sit on the side, alongside a dedicated textured AI button that becomes very important later.
Up top, Infinix added a secondary speaker, giving the phone a proper stereo speaker setup. For media consumption, this makes a noticeable difference compared to single-speaker budget phones.
Display Experience
The Infinix Hot 70 comes with a large 6.78-inch HD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Even though the resolution sits at 1576 × 720, the smoothness from the 120Hz panel helps the phone feel much faster during daily use. Scrolling through TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or X feels fluid and responsive.
Animations also appear smoother, and this alone significantly improves the overall experience compared to standard 60Hz phones.
Brightness reaches up to 700 nits, which is decent enough for indoor use and manageable outdoors. Watching YouTube, Netflix, and short-form content feels enjoyable, especially because the bezels are fairly slim for this price range.

The display also supports Always-On Display functionality, which adds a more premium touch.
Performance & Storage
Under the hood, the Hot 70 runs on the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate processor built on a 6nm architecture, paired with the Mali-G57 GPU.
In real-world usage, the phone feels responsive for normal daily activities. Apps launch quickly, multitasking works smoothly, and the 120Hz refresh rate helps everything feel faster than the hardware alone would suggest.

For casual gaming, performance is solid. Games like Free Fire, Mobile Legends, and lighter PUBG settings run comfortably. However, heavy gamers looking for maximum graphics performance may still prefer waiting for the upcoming Hot 70 Pro models or the GT series.
AI Features That Actually Feel Useful
This is where Infinix is trying hardest to separate the Hot 70 from other budget smartphones.
The dedicated AI button on the side is not just there for decoration. A short press activates One-Tap Flash Memo, which instantly captures and saves whatever is currently on your screen into something called the AI Mind Hub.

The phone then attempts to recognize what you are looking at automatically.
Holding the AI button launches the Flex AI assistant, which supports multiple AI systems including ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, and Flex AI itself.
This setup allows users to do things like:
- Live translations
- QR scanning
- Content sharing
- Navigation assistance
- Reminder creation
- AI-based screen recognition
- Asking questions about content currently displayed

Unlike many phones that advertise AI features nobody actually uses, these shortcuts feel genuinely practical during daily use.
Camera Performance
The camera setup is fairly simple.
On the back, there is a 50MP main camera paired with what is essentially a decorative secondary sensor. The Active Halo notification light also surrounds the module.
On the front, you get an 8MP selfie camera positioned in the center punch-hole cutout.

The camera app includes several modes like:
- Vlog Mode
- Portrait Mode
- Super Night Mode
- Dual Video
- Slow Motion
- Panorama
- Pro Mode
- Ultra HD Mode
Video recording goes up to 2K at 30fps on both the front and rear cameras, while 1080p 60fps is also supported.

In good lighting conditions, the camera performs surprisingly well for social media content. Colors appear vibrant, details are decent, and the shutter speed feels fast enough for quick captures.
The selfie camera is perfectly usable for TikTok videos, video calls, and casual selfies.
Low-light photography is where the limitations become more obvious, but honestly, that is expected in this category.
Infinix also added several AI photography tools including AI Eraser, AI Image Expansion, AI Wallpapers, AI Live Photo, and AI editing features that help improve the overall experience.
Battery Life & Charging
Battery life is one of the Hot 70’s strongest selling points. The global version ships with a massive 6000mAh battery, while some regions receive a slightly smaller 5600mAh version. Either way, endurance is excellent. Heavy users can comfortably get through a full day, while lighter users may even stretch into a second day without charging.
Charging speeds are also impressive thanks to the included 45W fast charger. A full charge takes roughly one hour. Another very useful feature here is bypass charging. Instead of continuously stressing the battery during gaming or streaming sessions, the phone can directly power the system while reducing heat buildup. That is a feature usually associated with more gaming-focused devices.
Software & Extra Features
The Hot 70 also packs several additional features that improve long-term usability.
You get:
- NFC support
- Stereo speakers
- Always-On Display
- AI wallpapers
- Cross-platform file sharing
- IP65 splash resistance
- SGS-certified drop protection
Infinix is also promising three Android OS updates alongside five years of security updates, which is honestly better than many people would expect at this price point.
Final Verdict
The Infinix Hot 70 is clearly designed for people who want something stylish, modern, and different without spending flagship money.
The color-changing design genuinely stands out, the AI features feel more practical than gimmicky, battery life is excellent, and the overall user experience is smoother than many phones in this category thanks to the 120Hz display.
Of course, it is not perfect. The cameras struggle in low light, gaming performance is more casual than hardcore, and buyers focused entirely on raw performance may still prefer waiting for the Hot 70 Pro or GT series.
But for people who prioritize battery life, unique design, strong daily performance, modern AI tools, and good overall value, the Infinix Hot 70 makes a very strong case for itself in Nigeria’s competitive budget smartphone market.
