Google Allegedly Restricts Benchmark Apps on Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

Users apparently can't install benchmark applications on their Pixel 8 and 8 Pro devices since Google has supposedly restricted that. Sanjiv of Notebookcheck discovered that Google has restricted users' ability to download and install the benchmarking apps Geekbench and 3D Mark on their gadgets.

Smartphone CPU and GPU performance is measured using benchmark applications. They are a useful tool for both reviewers and customers since they let them compare the functionality of various gadgets.

The author claims that while Google's ban on benchmark applications has prohibited some reviewers from conducting testing, sideloading the apps has allowed others to get over this restriction. Consequently, benchmark results for the Tensor G3 have nevertheless been made public.

The Tensor G3 performed worse than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in testing single-core and multi-core Geekbench 6. The 3D Mark Wild Life Stress benchmarks also showed that the Tensor G3 underperformed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This is true despite the Tensor G3 having a more modern and sophisticated architecture than some of its competitors.

The Tensor G3 is produced using Samsung's 4 nm node technology, which is less effective than TSMC's N4P node technology, which is used to produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This is the most likely cause of the performance discrepancy.

Users need to be aware that the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are not smartphones that are focused on performance. Therefore, you might want to think about using another device if performance is crucial to you.
