Apple Delays iOS 18 and macOS 15 Development to Prioritize Bug Fixes

According to Mark Gurman's article for Bloomberg, Apple put a halt to development on iOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18. The software team's mission to fix issues in current-generation software for iPhones, iPads, wearables, TVs, and Macs necessitated a development pause.

Workers in Cupertino were ordered to cease developing on new iterations, forcing developers to redirect their attention toward resolving bugs and optimizing software performance.

To ensure that software vulnerabilities are fixed, Craig Federighi, Senior VP and Chief Software Officer at Apple, has been working over the previous few years, which may require postponing certain upcoming products. According to sources close to Gurman, Federighi's software engineering team discovered an excessive number of issues that went unnoticed during internal testing.

The break is expected to be brief, lasting only a few days, and Apple is expected to resume development by this week's end. The first M1 versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 were finished last month, but further work on the operating systems was put on hold.

It is anticipated that the final significant update for the current version, iOS 17.4, will be released in March.
