A leaked memo from Instagram suggests that Direct Messaging (DMs) will be added to Threads sooner than previously thought.
Threads are moving quicker than anticipated to include a feature available on Twitter
Threads was an unexpected success, winding up with 100 million followers after five days. Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, stated that Direct Messaging for Threads will not be available anytime soon. Direct Messaging, sometimes known as DMs, refers to communications transmitted privately between subscribers on the same site.
It seems now that Threads might be introducing DMs sooner than anticipated. A leaked internal email from Instagram stating that DMs and other capabilities would be "coming soon" to Threads was obtained by Business Insider (via BGR). Social media expert Matt Navarra noted on Twitter that the memo does state new capabilities that are coming to Threads even though the report is prohibited by a paywall.
This is fantastic news for Threads because it will allow users to communicate privately with other subscribers without having to leave the site and open another social media app. What prompted Threads to advance the DMs timeline? It's rumored that influential Threads creators spoke with Instagram executives and emphasized the value of debuting the feature before other ones.
Additionally, improved search, trends, and topics for Threads are on the horizon, according to Instagram CEO Mosseri. Threads have pledged to enable multiple accounts, provide a chronological feed that only displays users you know, support hashtags, and allow you to change postings. Additionally, subscribers want the choice of canceling their accounts. And when Threads stops being a fad, Instagram will start looking to monetize the site by selling advertisements.
Threads are off to a good start putting pressure on Elon Musk and his team to attract more advertisers and turn Twitter's cash flow positive. As for Threads, we don't know when DMs and all the other aforementioned features will come to the site but for those who are backing it, these additions can't come soon enough. And it seems that Instagram's Mosseri is smart enough to understand that he can turn the heat up on Twitter by launching these features earlier than expected.
